Trusting the Machine: Generative Artificial Intelligence, Epistemic Authority, and Algorithmic Competence in Peruvian Universities: A Mixed-Methods Study in the Peruvian University Network

Funded by PUCP

The project studies how generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini are changing how students and professors place trust in knowledge, as well as the pedagogical and emotional relationship in Peruvian university classrooms. It combines a survey with an experiment across universities of the Peruvian University Network in Lima and the regions, together with focus groups and interviews. Its results aim to guide university policies for responsible and equitable use of AI, and the project is linked to a parallel study at the University of Murcia (Spain).

Subnational Territorial Governance and Corruption in Peru

Funded by Prociencia (CONCYTEC)

The project studies how the way political, economic and social actors organize and relate to each other in each territory shapes the risk of corruption in Peru's regional and local governments. It combines indicators built from public data, such as procurement and budget execution, with in-depth studies in three regions. It matters because subnational corruption undermines the legitimacy of the political system and the quality of public services, and the results will help design more effective anti-corruption policies.

Media Narratives and the Social Construction of Crime: The Case of Venezuelan Migration in Peru

Funded by PUCP (Vicerrectorado de Investigación, Dirección de Fomento de la Investigación)

The project studies how Peruvian media (print, radio and television, national and regional) portray Venezuelan migration and its relationship with crime. It analyzes their social media posts using computational tools and runs an online experiment to measure how the framing of a news story shapes people's opinions. It matters because the belief that migration increases crime has grown in Peru, even though the available evidence does not support it.
