A Vote of Confidence? Corruption, Accountability, and Local Candidate Preferences in a Developing Democracy
The study analyzes how 3,554 Peruvians use a two-step heuristic in a conjoint experiment to evaluate political candidates, initially using deal-breakers to narrow choices and then focusing on past corruption to determine trustworthiness.
